I read a quote this morning. The quote says, "Understanding is deeper than knowledge. There are many people who know you but there are very few who understand you," and in response to its profoundness, I wrote:
We can know merely by reading and hearing, not listening. But to understand, we must engage with knowledge; we must use knowledge; we must apply knowledge; we must attempt to innovate; we must do. Doing is what earns us wisdom.
Wisdom is holistic. In the box of wisdom is knowledge, discernment, and understanding. Wisdom can be a gift bestowed to one. Wisdom can be got by asking for it. But the way it would come after we ask for it may be something we may need to understand. It may come through pain or adversity.
We may actually be asking for experience when we ask for wisdom. This experience may be work. It may be something that may afflict. It could be through any other thing that we have attracted. Even if we don't understand it, one thing we must always do is to be thankful for everything.
The wise one is the one that expresses gratitude for all things, regardless of the drift. Reason is that there is nothing without purpose.
Of the many things we have been abundantly endowed with abundantly by the Life that dwells in and abides in us by promise, we have inspiration supplied to us according to the gifts that we have been given. It is important therefore for us to first identify the gift in us and marry it with the inspiration that comes to light us up.
Alignment is the secret to becoming an able channel. It is the pipeline that links one with and makes one, one with the Source. This is why we can't become an inspiration to others without first receiving same and when we receive same consistently, we become one with inspiration.
One reason that learning hardly happens is that we often only hear, but hardly listen. We don't process what we hear, and so we do not really pay attention. This makes us to either act wrongly or not act at all. Learning will remain in dearth therefore.
Where learning does not happen, change becomes a mirage. For change to happen we must do. If we do not do, we can't earn understanding. This wisdom is rare. We must do. We must play. And not just play, we must play thoughtfully. That's where response supersedes reaction.
Understanding is truly deeper than knowledge. We can know by reading and by hearing, but if we must understand, we must not only hear, we must listen by processing what we heard. This prepares us to engage and use knowledge to effect change. That is power.
Understanding is the depth of perception that practicality earns us. It is the wisdom bequeathed to us through industry. Men of understanding are men of value. They use knowledge to create happiness, gain fulfillment and spread peace through productive living. It is wisdom.
