I think that we should not mix sales with marketing. We should first learn to differentiate between marketing and sales.
Marketing is not sales. Marketing is building and managing relationships. If we do a good job at this, then we can make a sale.
How much do we know about the prospects? How much do we connect with them? How do we relate with them? Do prospects trust our persona first?
If they do not have that solid connection with us enough to trust us, forget about selling them a product.
It's emotions that buy products more often than the conviction of the value of the product.
How we connect the brain, the heart and the wallet together is one art that every marketer and sales person needs to perfect.
We can do this bringing authenticity, logic and empathy to build and earn trust for personal and otherwise purposes.
